Château Beaumont
Les Pierrières
AOC Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux
The estate of Château Beaumont Les Pierrières has belonged to the Roy Family then Filliatreau for over 200 years, 9 generations. It’s possible to date the birth of the domain with the purchase in 1760 of a vineyard at La Pierrière. Today, Mr and Mrs Robert Filliatreau take care of 18 hectares of vines planted in Berson in the heart of the Blaye-Côtes de Bordeaux AOC. The parcels of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are exposed on southern slopes of a clay and limestone hill. Some vines reach 30 years old.
TERROIR
Appellation
In front of the Medoc’s Grand Crus, just across the Gironde estuary, the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux AOC is the home of some of the best and oldest Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec of the entire region, with a similar terroir as Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, the wonderful clay and limestone soil. But the wines of Blaye are accessible at a lower price, the best quality/price ratio in the Bordeaux area.
Varietals
80% Merlot
20% Cabernet Sauvignon
WINEMAKING & VINIFICATION
The property is certified HEV 3rd level (High Environmental Value, the highest level of French environmental certification for farms) since the 2019 vintage.
After a careful work in the vineyard (natural grass kept between rows, ground work under vine-plants), the harvest is vinified in stainless tanks at low temperatures to master and preserve during fermentations, all flavors of fruit. Then, the wine is aged in barrels for 6 months before the final blend to get the perfect balance between fruit and wood.
TASTING NOTES
A ruby color, notes of blackcurrant, raspberry and undergrowth from Cabernet Sauvignon, a soft mouth from Merlot with a hint of prune, silky tannins : this classic Bordeaux blend, 80% Merlot add to 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, is made to be shared as an aperitif with delicatessen or at a barbecue. Château Beaumont Les Pierrières is the perfect wine for a moment of conviviality!
