Château Haut Prieur
AOC Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux
Château Haut Prieur has been a family estate for more than 150 years, 8 hectares planted in one piece on a clay and limestone hillside, well exposed and overlooking the Gironde Estuary. The vineyard is composed of Merlot and Malbec and the vines are around 35 years old but the oldests are more than 60 years old. The Baudin Family takes care of this wonderful terroir in the heart of the Blaye-Côtes de Bordeaux AOC with a unrivaled brightness and the mildness of the oceanic climate.
TERROIR
Appellation
In front of the Medoc’s Grand Crus, just across the Gironde estuary, the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux AOC is the home of some of the best and oldest Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec of the entire region, with a similar terroir as Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, the wonderful clay and limestone soil. But the wines of Blaye are accessible at a lower price, the best quality/price ratio in the Bordeaux area.
Varietals
90% Merlot
10% Malbec
WINEMAKING & VINIFICATION
The property is certified HEV 3rd level (High Environmental Value, the highest level of French environmental certification for farms) since the 2019 vintage. The natural grass is kept between the rows and the ground under the vine-plants is worked mechanically.
The harvest is picked thank to a machine with latest technologies to bring in the vat house only intact berries, perfectly ripe. The wine-grapes are vinified in stainless tanks at low temperatures to preserve all aromas of fruits and aged in barrels for 6 months before the final blend to get the perfect balance between fruit and wood.
TASTING NOTES
A deep black robe, a powerful nose of black fruit, a soft mouth with lots of ripe fruit aromas… The Château Haut Prieur is made to be served with barbecue or cheeses.
