Château Labrousse
AOC Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux
Château Labrousse, bought by Sabrina and Jacques Chardat in 1991, is a property located in St-Martin-Lacaussade, close to Blaye, in the North of Bordeaux, on the right bank of the Gironde estuary, in front of the Médoc’s Grands Crus Classés. At the beginning, it was a 15 ha vineyard but year after year, thank to the purchases of neighbouring parcels, Château Labrousse is today a 90 ha wonderful property with the best plots of the Blaye area.
Château Labrousse is a property which has existed for 2 centuries. In the early 19th century, the wine was listed as Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel by Editions Féret, a reference by this time. Sabrina and Jacques Chardat have chosen this property because it’s the perfect representation of the Bordeaux excellence.
TERROIR
Château Labrousse has beautiful clay-limestone plots, rich of urchin fossils, on wonderful hillsides overlooking the Gironde estuary, the bigest in Europe. It offers at the vines a unrivaled brightness and the mildness of the oceanic climate.
Varietals
80% Merlot
20% Cabernet Sauvignon
WINEMAKING & VINIFICATION
The property has been run with organic methods (certified by EcoCert) for several years, and is certified ISO 14001 and HEV 3rd level (High Environmental Value, the highest level of French environmental certification for farms). The vineyard is planted with a density of 5000 vines/ha. No herbicide, no synthetic fertilizer, no pesticide and all soil labours are made with mechanical tools.
The harvest is picked thank to a machine with latest technologies, to bring in the vat house only intact berries, perfectly ripe. The wine-grapes ferment in thermoregulated stainless tanks and then the ageing is made in cement vats and oak barrels.
TASTING NOTES
It’s a wine for ageing, rich and powerful with a complex bouquet melting fruity and woody – the best to be shared with family or friends for the special occasions.
