Château
La Rose Beaumont
AOC Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux
This property of 3,5 hectares is run by Marie-Claire Filliatreau. It’s located in the village of Berson in the heart of the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux AOC. The wine derives from two plots of Merlot (clay-limestone and clay-gravel) worked in organic farming since 2019.
TERROIR
Appellation
In front of Medoc’s Grand Cru, just across the Gironde estuary, the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux AOC is the home of some of the best and oldest Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec of the entire region, with a similar terroir as Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, the wonderful clay and limestone soil. But the wines of Blaye are accessible at a lower price, the best quality/price ratio in the Bordeaux area.
Varietals
100% Merlot
WINEMAKING & VINIFICATION
The property is also certified HEV 3rd level (High Environmental Value, the highest level of French environmental certification for farms). The natural grass is kept between the rows and the ground under the vine-plants is worked mechanically to galvanize the microbial life and push the roots to go deeper. The aim is to not suffer from the constraints of the vintage and develop the expression of the terroir.
The harvest is picked thank to a machine with latest technologies to bring in vat house only intact berries perfectly ripe, without stem, leave or wood. It is vinified in concrete tanks without adding sulphite. The maceration and the fermentation are short and make at low temperatures to reveal all the fruity potential and get a soft and silky mouth. The ageing in tanks is controlled thank to the micro-oxygenation to preserve the aromas of the wine.
