Château Montfollet
Vieilles Vignes
AOC Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux
In the heart of the best terroirs of the appellations of Blaye and Bourg, this family estate of 67 hectares of vines is located on hillsides of red clay and limestone, overlooking the Gironde estuary, on the right bank, facing the most prestigious Margaux’s Grands Crus. It has been in the Raimond family for three generations.
Today, attentive to reveal the potential of these wonderful terroirs while respecting the environment, Dominique Raimond, a passionate winemaker and the current owner, uses all the means to get real “Grands Vins de Bordeaux”.
TERROIR
A superb clay-limestone slopes South, South-East and South-West exposed, overlooking the Gironde estuary, the vineyard is bathed in light throughout the year and benefits from the mild temperatures of the oceanic climate.
Blend
70% Merlot
30% Malbec
WINEMAKING & VINIFICATION
The natural grass is kept between the rows and the ground under the vine-plants is worked mechanically to galvanize the microbial life and push the roots to go deeper. The property is also certified HEV level 3 (High Environmental Value, the highest level of French environmental certification for farms).
The harvest is picked thank to a machine with latest technologies to bring in vat house only intact berries perfectly ripe, without stem, leave or wood. Then it is vinified in stainless tank at low temperatures to preserve all aromas of fruits and is aged in barrels for 12 months before the final blend to get the perfect balance between fruit and wood.
TASTING NOTES
A garnet red colour, a dense but subtle nose with notes of grenadine and tints of black pepper. On the palate the wine is fruity and perfectly balanced, a nice harmony and a lot of sapidity.
