Château Terre Blanque
AOC Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux
Château Terre Blanque was taken over by Odile and Thierry Bazin in 2011. At the end of their careers in large companies, they wanted to combine living and working in harmony. When they found this recognized vineyard, they could finally put their plans into action.
Respectful of the history of the estate and to further increase its reputation, Odile and Thierry have appealed to the support and experience of Jacques Chardat, an oenologist graduate of the Faculty of Bordeaux and the owner of the Château Lacaussade Saint-Martin, neighboring property. Their association with Jacques has also extended a strong family tie because Odile and Jacques are twin !
TERROIR
Appellation
In front of the Medoc’s Grand Crus, just across the Gironde estuary, the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux AOC is the home of some of the best and oldest Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec of the entire region, with a similar terroir as Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, the wonderful clay and limestone soil. But the wines of Blaye are accessible at a lower price, the best quality/price ratio in the Bordeaux area.
Soil
The Terre-Blanque estate is located in the Saint Genès de Blaye area, on a 15-hectare plateau in the heart of the AOC. It owes its name to the white colour of the soil, the same name as the village (Blanque = blanc means white). This exceptional terroir is composed of a filtering chalky clay soil and a sub-soil mix of limestone rocks (sometimes flushed) and grey clay : this unique soil lends the vines extraordinary ripeness.
Varietals
80% Merlot
20% Cabernet Sauvignon
WINEMAKING & VINIFICATION
The vineyard has begun its organic conversion and is already HEV 3rd level certified (High Environmental Value, the highest level of French environmental certification for farms). No herbicide, no synthetic fertilizer, no pesticide and all soil labours are made with mechanical tools.
The harvest is picked thank to a machine with latest technologies to bring in the vat house intact berries, perfectly ripe. Vinification at low temperatures, between 22 and 26 ° C. to preserve fruit aromas. Before bottling, a part of the production (20%) is aged in barrels for 6 months.
TASTING NOTES
A beautiful and deep red robe, brightly, a very aromatic nose with notes of red fruit, a fresh and soft mouth, and a shapely final.
